I've been in hermit mode writing and podcasting and the like, but there are a few magnificent things happening this month, so poking my head up for a moment to share them with you:
- My beloved Matthew Freeman has a gorgeous new show called THE HOLLOW: An evening of short works, and it is opening in one week!
It will be up from May 23 through June 2 at Brooklyn's legendary Brick Theater. Here is the oh-so intriguing description:A Polaroid face down on a table. A foreboding diagnosis. A book discovered in the attic. The Hollow presents three short plays that explore memory, mortality and magic.Tickets are on sale now, so be sure to snag yours today (and hot tip: offer code HOLLOWEARLY gets you $10 off the opening night performance).

I'm thrilled to be writing the text for a new major arcana tarot deck for Sabat Magazine.Le Tarot de L'Etoile Cachee consists of 22 cards designed by artist Elisa Seitzinger. Translating to "The Tarot of the Hidden Star," the deck is inspired by the Tarot de Marseille, and seeks to help the reader uncover their light within.I always love working with Sabat, thanks to their impeccable production values and exquisite eye, so it's an honor to get to put words to this special project of theirs.
- I was recently interviewed for Grimoire Magazine, and in it, I talk witches, feminism, art, and drag - so many of my favorite things!
- The Duende: Artists Translating Spirits show up now through June 9th at Cavan Morris looks sublime. (Thank you Lorenzo De Los Angeles for the heads up!)
- The Liminal Worlds show at Trestle Gallery is also up through June 9th. It features artwork about "betwixt and between" places by four great artists, including the fantastic Elizabeth Insogna.
- Volume 2 of Black Magick comes out next week.
- Mary and the Witch's Flower is finally available to watch online. Not my favorite plot or writing, to be honest, but the animation is beautiful and full of inventive and charming witchery.
- Been listening obsessively to Hannah Epperson's music. Strings, electronic beats, otherworldly looping, swirling sonics, poetic lyrics. Heaven.
- Lately I've been dealing with some pretty tough personal stuff. The books Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach and Kintsugi Wellness by Candice Kumai have been bringing me comfort. Read them if you also want to learn how to accept and love your broken places, and, in the latter case, turn them into gold.
I hope the rest of your May is beauteous and blooming. XO
