The Zebra Shirt of Lonely Children is a one-man show opening this week as part of the NYC Fringe Festival, written and performed by my dear friend, the very gifted Matthew Trumbull, and directed by my dear husband, the ever-brilliant Matthew Freeman. The show is about Trumbull's attempt at reconciling his artistic, shambolic life with that of his critically ill father's seemingly more practical attitude. It is incredibly touching, funny, and altogether remarkable, and you won't want to miss it. Details here:
Matthew Trumbull's first solo performance and first produced play, after more than 10 years as a prolific and well-loved actor in the New York Theater "Indie" scene.
The Zebra Shirt of Lonely Children, written by Matthew Trumbull, takes the audience on a journey through the strange bonding days between Trumbull's cancer-stricken 55-year-old father, an unassuming Minnesota engineer who takes his belief in usefulness above and beyond; and Trumbull, a New York City actor with a slew of day jobs both brief and bizarre. Cadaver donation, eulogy inspiration in chain restaurants, and final conversations 30 years before father or son is ready--ZEBRA SHIRT explores the absurdity and pain of a simple life at an unfathomable end.
