Georganne Deen "The Widow Rance" 2010
I discovered Georganne Deen in a bit of a roundabout way. Her monograph of paintings, poems, and a spoken word/music CD, called "Western Witch, Season of the," came up at the end of a long trail of link crumbs. It was produced by Thurston Moore and Viggo Mortensen, and it is a strange and lovely object to be sure. Her site is chock full of her mixed media pieces of curious creatures, naked ladies, and mythic allusions. Lotus eaters, Hanuman, Edenic couples and more drip and cavort with beer bottles, guitars, meerkats, teacups, and intriguing word fragments. It all has a cracked joy to it which I find irresistible.
Wow, she has such a strange and interesting oeuvre. You could dive deep into what she is offering.
