Kirstin Lamb "Belief in Things Unseen" 2010
Kirstin Lamb's work is joyful and wicked and strange. She has an obvious love of kitsch and curios, juxtapozing portraits against garish patterns, and painting tableaux that contain, amongst other things, stag heads, skulls, presidential busts, and slabs of meat. I love the piece above, in that it feels mystical and quirky at once. On the whole, there's a playfulness and overall tongue-in-cheek vibe to her pieces which belie a dark and delicious underbelly.
