Kay Sage "Le Passage" 1956
I have encountered the work of Kay Sage so many times in the past month (having not been familiar with her before), I can only chalk it up to the powers of synchronicity. Obviously she is someone I need to be paying more attention to! I am crazy about this painting in particular. Her body of work as a whole seems to me a meditation on anonymity and solitude, but also oneness. Lovely stuff.
(Thanks, Rob!)
Married to Yves Tanguy, as I expect you may know.

You should check out Whitney Chadwick's excellent book "Women Artists and the Surrealist Movement". This very painting is on the jacket of the edition I have and the book will introduce you to many other phantasmaphilic artists of that era.
