Dorothea Tanning "Birthday" 1942
Today is my birthday, so I find myself thinking about one of my favorite paintings of all time (which, incidentally, I just got to see in person at the Philadelphia Museum of Art). Dorothea Tanning created this marvel for her own birthday in 1942. It is an astounding work of introspection, imagination, and candor - all qualities I strive for in myself as I kick off this next year of life. I also highly recommend reading this interview with her, in which she doles out pearls of wisdom such as:
Amazing woman.
Also, Happy Birthday to another alltime favorite artist of mine, Judith Schaechter! And Happy Valentine's Day to you all.
A very happy birthday to us all, my dear! It's an honour to be in such good company.
I hope you have a lovely day. x

Belated happy birthday! And "Birthday" is one of my all-time favorite paintings, too.
