Solange Knopf "Mandragore" 2014
If I were you, I would make sure to see the exquisite "Cherchez La Femme" show of female surrealist artists at Sotheby's on its last day today. And then, since I would already be in a magickal feminine state of mind, I would head over to Chelsea in the evening for tonight's opening of "Spirited Women: Drawing Down Fire" at Cavin-Morris. It features an abundant array of imaginative women artists on the margins of the so-called "established" art world, shining a spotlight on magnificent work that is so often overlooked.
Artists include Amalia, Bessie Harvey, Christine Sefolosha, Anna Zemankova, Solange Knopf, Semone Robinson, and Dawn Walden, and each is a channel for deep ecstasy and visionary picture-making. The imagery from them that's showcased in this comprehensive Huffington Post article takes my breath away.
The show is up through November 28th, so if you can't attend the reception from 6-8pm tonight, be sure to visit it in the coming weeks.
