Thomas Woodruff "Saturn: The bringer of old age / The brat with promise" 2007-2008
I am beyond excited to see Thomas Woodruff's new show, "Solar System (The Turning Heads)," which opens at P.P.O.W. Gallery on October 10th. The paintings are anthropomorphized interpretations of the planets, and they drip with Woodruff's signature hyperdecorative aesthetic. Each piece is wondrous to behold at first glance, but the genius lies in the fact that every one is meant to be flipped, thereby revealing an inverse meaning. Case in point:
I am curious to see how the show will be hung. I am prepared to walk on the ceiling if need be.
On the PPOW website it lists "motor" as one of the materials, so I am guessing that the paintings will rotate periodically.

Aw Gee, thanks for the interest in the new paintings. Make sure to introduce yourself at my opening, I really appreciate the support of my work, it makes my working alone in my studio, unsure of my own obsessions communicating with anybody, seem less scary and futile. I hope you won't be disappointed.
