As I've written many times before, reading Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics series for the first time was one of the most precious, transformative experiences of my life. I started reading it when I was a wee adolescent, went into mourning when the last issue came out years later, and have read the whole epic several times over since. For anyone who hasn't yet had the pleasure, I encourage you to buy a copy of Preludes and Nocturnes and get started on the first course of the coolest, smartest, most beautiful mythological banquet you will most likely ever devour.
Next year marks the 20th anniversary of Sandman, and there is a ton of great celebratory stuff going on. Here is a list of what I'm aware of thus far:
- "Endless Reflections" tribute art show from October 4th - 20th at Nucleus.
- Neil Gaiman in conversation with Chip Kidd at 92nd St Y in NYC on November 9th.
- 20th Anniversary commemorative poster, with characters drawn by various Sandman artists
- Sandman and Death 20th Anniversary Bookends
- Vertigo Special Edition Tarot Deck Set
...and plenty more to come I'm sure.
