Paul Laffoley "Astrological Ouroboros" 1965
More big news! I've been working on this project for the better part of a year, so I am thrilled to finally be able to unveil it.
Language of the Birds: Occult and Art is an exhibition that I've curated at NYU's 80WSE Gallery, and it features nearly a century's worth of over 60 artists whose work deals with the theme of magic, including such luminaries as Leonora Carrington, Kurt Seligmann, Aleister Crowley, Leonor Fini, Kenneth Anger, Kiki Smith, Paul Laffoley, and Francesco Clemente. There will also be several events which I've programmed to coincide with the show, including a performance of a theatrical piece by magnificent playwright Matthew Freeman commissioned for the show; an evening of lectures and a panel discussion with Professor Susan L. Aberth, Jesse Bransford, and William Breeze; and the Occult Humanities Conference which I posted about earlier this week.
This truly feels like a dream come true, and the magnum opus culmination of my ten years maintaining this site and seven years of curating art shows and events. I'm so grateful to those of you who have supported my various esoteric endeavors, whether in person or in the e-ther. And special thanks go to my dear friend and collaborator, Jesse Bransford, who has helped make so much of this possible.
