Peter Carrington "Xpigeon"
Peter Carrington uploaded this drawing to his Flickr account with the caption, "Sorry I hit you with my car," which I found to be both hilarious and actually quite moving. As a New Yorker, pigeons have taken on many meanings for me over the years, and I have a strange affection for these dirty doves. I've even taken to using their feathers for smudging - an attempt to resacralize urban space, and acknowledge that even these "rats with wings," as Woody Allen called them, have psychopompic qualities, and are in fact quite beautiful in their gray iridescence. But I digress. All of Carrington's drawings wed images of animals (many of them dead), geometry, and spirituality together, in perfect graphic combinations. I love these for their accuracy and boldness, and I appreciate how they trigger contemplation from the viewer - or at least from me.
