I've said it before, but every now and again my email box becomes suddenly filled with treasure. I'll get an email from an artist whose work hits me so hard that it feels like a gift to have him or her share it with me. Chris Sedgwick gave me such an experience by sending me jpegs of three of his paintings, plus a link to an excellent little video he put together explaining the symbolism of his piece, "The Eternal Formation." His work is a masterful blend of technique and meaning, drawing deeply from the well of Masonic and Rosicruscian traditions - and thus, splashing around in alchemical and pagan waters as well. It's work that is magically charged without feeling schmaltzy, thanks to his classical painting skills. And one doesn't have to know every single symbol or allusion to still get a sense of each piece's essential truth. Marvelous.
