Max Razdow "The Double Man" 2011
I've admired Max Razdow's work from afar for a while now, but I got to see it in person for the first time at the "That Sinking Sense of Wonder" show up now at SOUTHFIRST. This piece made me gasp out loud. It reminds me of the alchemical rebis, a symbol with a great deal of personal meaning for me. And the drawing as a whole is grand in both scale and detail. I love the snippets of poetry ribboned throughout the linework, and the way this deific being dwarfs the crystalline world surrounding it. Truly transcendent.
