Krista Huot "Four Unicorns of the Apocalypse" 2009
I simply adore the work of Krista Huot. She manages to take the well-trod land of myth and make it newer and even cooler than it already is, with her Mary Blair meets Margaret Keane meets Tim Burton aesthetic. Her show "Nepenthe" opens tomorrow night at Gallery Nineteen Eighty Eight in San Francisco and will be up through January 30th. Expect to see fabulous neo-retro paintings of righteous babes from Storyville, including Persephone, Alice, and one particularly pouty Eve.
Ah ha ha among the glamorous pagan plant allegories... she has Zoot and Co. from Monty Python's Holy Grail, and they're even holding Michael Palin's shield!
