Hayv Kahraman "Flayed Lamb" 2008
It's not every day one encounters an artist who seems to have invented her own visual style, but I think Hayv Kahraman has done just that. Born in Baghdad and trained in Florence, she so beautifully weaves together her various influences and paints vignettes that feel like a graceful mixture of Persian, Japanese, and Italian parables. It's culture mashing at its best, because it feels entirely new and is totally breathtaking.
