Simon English "Sugar Plum Fairy"
I have so much to tell you about, and it all traces back to the mysterious marvel-maker, Viktor Wynd. But more on him in a second.
First off, I received a notice this morning announcing a spectacular-sounding show called "Horn of Plenty," which is a fundraiser for the delightful House of Fairy Tales organization out of the U.K. Cue drool:
"The House of Fairy Tales presents a fundraising exhibition of objects and artworks by international artists, designers and film-makers, many of whom have contributed to the Exquisite Trove touring exhibition currently at The New Art Gallery Walsall or have been part of HoFT’s hugely successful 2009 tour of festivals across the country.
The Horn of Plenty will explore folk tales, fables, myths and legends, all cousins of the fairy tale. Beauties and beasts are plentiful in fairy tales and are often the key subject in many of these artists’ work. To celebrate the midwinter season there will be evenings of wine and candlelit stories, music and mystery guests amidst the curiosities of Viktor Wynd’s Little Shop of Horrors.
The Horn of Plenty or cornucopia is a symbolic hollow horn filled with the inexhaustible gifts of celebratory fruits. The horn has supernatural powers, which give the person in possession of it whatever he or she wishes for…!
All artwork will be for sale during the course of this exhibition and will be available to view and to buy from the website from the 1st of December."
Which of course led me to look up said "Exquisite Trove" exhibition, which is up at The New Art Gallery Walsall through October 16th, 2010:
"The House of Fairy Tales

Now back to Viktor Wynd. In addition to his gallery, he runs the mind-bogglingly wonderful Last Tuesday Society, which hosts lectures and events of the whimsical/macabre/uncanny/pick-a-word variety. In fact, it could very well be a sister space to the joint I run here in Brooklyn with some cohorts, Observatory. (Or perhaps more like a long-lost cousin space). And once again I repeat the refrain: I need to visit the UK again SOON.
thanks for the link pam ..wonderful stuff !
