Rudolf Kurz does incredible etchings which are allegorical, perverse, and extremely lovely. I'm so impressed by his linework, as well as his ability to balance the grotesque with the sublime.

I wish, however that he had mentioned Carl Spitzweg's The hungry Poet, as at least part inspiration for his "Poet".

Hello Penelope,
I'm German, and the reference to Carl Spitzweg is pretty obvious to 'my kind'.
This image was originally conceived as an illustration for a book by the American/ Canadian poet A.F. Moritz, and the Spitzweg allusion is my own private in-joke. Glad you saw it. -
