A mix of things I've been delighted by this summer thus far:
Madame Xanadu - It's been ages since I've followed a comics series on a monthly, issue by issue basis (usually I wait for the collected trade paperbacks), but I had to make an exception for this latest offering from Vertigo and Matt Wagner. It follows the story of a seemingly immortal, fortunetelling witch, and will span eras, in a sort of epic history of magic. The art, by Amy Reeder Hadley, is some of the most beautiful I have ever seen in this medium.
The Surrealist Compliment Generator - "Your eyes are like spheres of glue filled with shimmering worms."
The Films of Kenneth Anger, Vol. 1 - Worth it for "Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome" alone. Anger's mystical, bizarre short films are awash in color and a symbolic code that's best left uncracked.
I've been so torn about Madame Xanadu...it does indeed look beautiful but I am so reluctant to add another comic because of the expense...and I don't read that many. I have been really impressed with House of Mystery...the first four issues have been fun. I think I am about to drop Echo, maybe I should go back and pick up Madame X. and give it a try.
