Janieta Eyre "The Christening" 1995
Janieta Eyre's photographs creep up on you like a ghost. By primarily using twins as her models, Eyre creates mysterious tableaux that seem to speak about the nature of identity. Each work is immaculately staged, with wonderful attention to costume and prop details. They feel like the sort of pieces you might stumble upon at a strange flea market or in a dusty old shoebox and wonder, "Who are these people, and what in heaven's name are they doing?"
(Found via Lori Field's wonderful new blog).
My favorite of hers is the one with somebody barfing up red-wing blackbirds which fly around the room in two frames. There was a nice repro of it in "Canadian Art 22/1" but I found it on this site too.
