Gregory Crewdson "Untitled (Ophelia from Twilight)" 2001
I realize many of you are probably already familiar with this iconic photograph by Gregory Crewdson, but I couldn't resist sharing it anyway. His surreal, cinematic images are elaborate studies on mood and uncertainty. He takes the supernatural suburban anxiety of David Lynch and the isolated longing of Edward Hopper and crystallizes them into lush and haunting narratives all his own. This spring is a great season for Crewdson, as it sees a special behind the scenes analysis of his production process in Aperture, as well as the mass release of his latest monograph, Beneath the Roses.

Wow, that photo is awesome! I was going to say it looks like a mix between Hopper and Jeff Wall before I even read your description... love love it.

I first was exposed to Gregory Crewdson,s photos on the front cover of the New Yorker Magazine.
One of my favorites is the photo of the Grocery Store. It reminds me so much of the small town I grew up in.I cannot put in words the impression these photos have.
