Wei Dong "Bait" 2005
Wow. Wei Dong creates some powerful work. With references to Chinese history and Western painting, his scenes are majestic and unsettling. It reminds me a bit of John Currin, in the way they both meld together various art styles from the past, while producing something entirely new.

Well, Wei Dong's works are very different from those of John Currin: one driven very much by sexuality or desires, the other driven mostly by American pop culuture.

Point taken, yet I think their aesthetic strategies are similar - stylistic and historical compositing. Plus, one might argue that American pop culture IS driven by sexuality and desires. -Pam
